Labour intensive solder process sidetracked

Zierick has developed a highly reliable and fast way to connect a wire to a surface mount printed circuit board. This innovative technology combines the advantages of crimping, insulation piercing and SMT and thereby replaces the labour intensive process of soldering wires manually. This greatly improves the reliability and long term quality of your application. And it works faster.

This connector solution consists out of a surface mount terminal and a terminating machine which feeds the wire into the connector and makes the termination. This is a perfect solution for LED lighting applications where numerous serial connections are made to one single wire.

How does Zierick's piercing technology for coax cables work?

First of all, these IPC connectors are surface mounted to the PCB. After reflow, the outer jacket is removed and the braid is stripped at approximately 6,35mm in one single operation. Then the cable is inserted into the hole of the housing. Force is then applied to the top of the plastic housing and the three piercing blades cut through the insulation and penetrate into the shield and the cable’s core, completing the wire connection process.
